Today, you're going to do a small meditation exercise. It's a practice I accidentally ended up creating one day while I was really struggling to meditate.
Read the whole thing first before you begin.
Steps:
Start by getting comfortable. You can stand, sit, or lie down, whatever works for you.
Then take a deep breath, as deep as you can manage. Slowly breathe in, and then out. Then take another deep breath, slowly and gradually breathing in, then letting it out. Do this a third time, and take your time breathing in, and out.
After the third breath, focus on whatever is going on inside your head. There's probably all sorts of activity and chatter there. Visualize what that looks like.
Then, and this is an important part, replace that image with a blank space. You can replace the image of the chatter with the image of an empty room, just white or black, a blank sheet of paper, or something else. The end image can be anything, as long as it is blank.
Replace the activity in your head with this blank space. Then focus on that, and keep deep slow breathing while focusing on this blank space. Keep doing it as long as you can, but at least for five minutes.
And… that's it.
That will give you valuable mental clarity and space. This will also give you energy to tackle things better.
Practice it, and let me know how it goes.
Breathe deep,
Salek
P.S. One of the keys to getting the most benefits from meditation is to do it regularly. That takes perseverance. Learn more about that, why it is important, and how it impacts your life, here > Prioritising Perseverance: The Story of the Ant and the Grasshopper
